September STEM Club
The first meeting of the St. Joseph STEM Club was held on the last Wednesday in September. During the club, we talked about what STEM stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), why STEM is important, and how we can make STEM fun. The challenge of the day was to make a bridge out of 100 marshmallows and 100 toothpicks that was at least 6 inches long and could hold the most pennies without collapsing. The groups were not too confident with their creations when it came time to test. However, the winning bridge was able to hold 77 pennies before it collapsed! We spent time discussing what kind of things could be done to improve upon the designs to make it better for next time, and how 'failure' in STEM isn't necessarily a bad thing!
